Magnetic Man

London's dance and electronic scenes started to evolve in the early 2000s from garage, grime and drum'n'bass into a darker, sparse, sub-bass sound known as dubstep. At the forefront of the new genre was pirate radio station Rinse FM and Croydon record store Big Apple Records, which supported and developed the young DJ/producers Skream, Benga and Artwork. After making some of the scene's most seminal tracks, the trio came together as Magnetic Man in 2007 and, after initially hiding their identity, scored their first Top 10 hit with I Need Air in 2010. Their collaboration with Katy B - Perfect Stranger - made it to Number 16 in the UK singles chart and the group worked with soul star John Legend on its follow-up Getting Nowhere. Their debut album Magnetic Man (2010) reached Number 5 and the band were acclaimed for their experimental live shows, in which each member lays down individual sounds on their laptops that are in turn mixed together in real time.
