Joy Denalane

German soul and R&B singer Joy Maureen Denalane was born in West Berlin on June 11, 1973. After initially singing in the reggae and soul bands Culture Roots and Family Affair, she signed her first record deal as a solo artist in 1996. Together with the hip-hop band Freundeskreis, she recorded the song "Mit dir" in 1999, which climbed to number 9 in the German charts. Three years later, she released her debut album Mamani, which reached number 8 in the charts with the help of producer Max Herre. Her second studio album Born & Raised, released in 2006, contains exclusively English-language lyrics. In addition to reaching number 2 in the German charts, Joy Denalane is awarded a gold record for the album. After several concerts and festivals in Germany and abroad, Maureen (2011) and Gleisdreieck (2017) also reached the German Top 10. Joy Denalane's fifth studio album Let Yourself Be Loved will be released on September 4, 2020 on the US label Motown.
